History of Rap Music Essay Free Online Research Papers The genre called Rap originated in the Bronx, New York, in the mid-1970’ (Howard). Of the many legends of how Rap came to be the most popular has to do with the humble DJ’s and MC’s of the underground clubs. While the DJ spun the track, the MC would entertain the crowd with simple rhymes (EZ Track). Over the years, Rap Music has become the theme songs of most young African American men in the United States. However, the genre has broke boundaries and entered almost every culture outside of the states. Nonetheless, a Rapper, along with Rap Music, is stereotyped to be associated with the thug life. Most individuals think that a Rap song is no more than a guy spitting rhymes about how much money he has, how many women he has slept with, or how low a girl can get. Yet they neglect to mention the Rappers such as Tupac Shakur, Nas, or Ice Cube who didn’t flaunt but instead made poetry. Tupac was one of those artists that took his gift to alter the entire Rap g ame (Howard). Tupac Shakur was born June 16, 1971, in the East Harlem section of Manhattan in New York City (Wikipedia). From an early age, he was surrounded by incarceration. His godfather, his stepfather, and his sister all had spent time in jail by the time he was twelve. He used his surroundings and experiences to create a poetic style of rap that vocalized the problem facing the ghetto. Some of his music was controversial because of his descriptive, most of the time violent, lyrics. The majority of music critics didn’t agree with his honesty. Contradictory to what the critics thought, people from the ghettos of New York or California understood what Shakur was singing. â€Å"Lord knows I†¦ tried, been a witness to homicide. Seen drive-bys, takin’ lives, little kids die† is a quote from his song So Many Tears. Tupac was simply shedding some light on what individuals refused to acknowledge. (Wikipedia) Tupac nearly created his own version of the Rap game. The so-called ‘Thug Life’ was brought into each home without sugar-coating the facts. â€Å"They never talk peace in the black community. All we know is violence, do it all in silence,† as quoted in his song Trapped. Along with his contentious lyrics, his style was distinct. Instead of the multicolored pimp suit, Tupac rocked a bandana tied to the front of his head, nose ring, and a wife-beater with some saggy jeans. Socially he was known to be a thug. In December of 1994, two days before his sexual abuse trial, Tupac was shot five times, then robbed by two men. Later, when he checked himself out of the hospital, Shakur was found guilty of three counts of molestation and convicted. While serving his sentence, Tupac released his album Me Against the World which was number one on the Billboard 200. He would be the only artist to ever do that while incarcerated (Wikipedia). The modern day rapper hasn’t motivation to create music that will ultimately change the way someone views the world (Howard). Shakur aggressively assaulted racism, poverty, and violence in his songs. The majority of his music didn’t contain feel-good songs that are used for the club. â€Å"I see no changes all I see is racist faces misplaced hate makes disgrace to races,† as quoted in his song Changes. Today most rappers believe in exploiting their wealth for a hit song. Tupac believed in creating poetry that struck the core of the day’s hardships of African-Americans that needed to be addressed. Every man and woman from the corners of Compton to the Projects can identify with at least one of Tupac’s songs. He was and still is, an influential rapper and poet (Wikipedia). The day he died the world lost one of its greatest Rap artists. Many rappers have tried to mimic his style but not one has been triumphant in recreating what Tupac. The impersonators fail to realize Tupac put his own identity into every lyric that inked from his pen. His past resides in the ghetto where he watched his friends get killed by drive-bys or where he saw men and women strung out on the streets. There are not many rappers who can say their work is geared towards advocating social reform or any kind of change in an Ethnic community. No question can be put to the credibility of Shakur’s work or identity. Tupac can be called the face of the modern day poet for he proved himself capable of reaching people’s hearts through his words. About the Clayton Antitrust Act of 1914 The Clayton Antitrust Act of 1914, was enacted on October 15, 1914, with a goal of strengthening provisions of the Sherman Antitrust Act. Enacted in 1890, the Sherman Act had been the first federal law intended to protect consumers by outlawing monopolies, cartels, and trusts. The Clayton Act sought to enhance and address weaknesses in the Sherman Act by preventing such unfair or anti-competitive business practices in their infancy. Specifically, the Clayton Act expanded the list of prohibited practices, provided a three-level enforcement process, and specified exemptions and remedial or corrective methods. Background If trust is a good thing, why does the United States have so many â€Å"antitrust† laws, like the Clayton Antitrust Act? Today, a â€Å"trust† is simply a legal arrangement in which one person, called the â€Å"trustee,† holds and manages a property for the benefit of another person or group of people. But in the late 19th century, the term â€Å"trust† was typically used to describe a combination of separate companies. The 1880s and 1890s saw a rapid increase in the number of such large manufacturing trusts, or â€Å"conglomerates,† many of which were viewed by the public as having too much power. Smaller companies argued that the large trusts or â€Å"monopolies† had an unfair competitive advantage over them. Congress soon began to hear the call for antitrust legislation. Then, as now, fair competition among businesses resulted in lower prices for consumers, better products and services, greater choice of products, and increased innovation. Brief History of Antitrust Laws Advocates of antitrust laws argued that the success of the American economy depended on the ability of small, independently owned business to compete fairly with each other. As  Senator John Sherman  of Ohio stated in 1890, â€Å"If we will not endure a king as a political power we should not endure a king over the production, transportation, and sale of any of the necessaries of life.†   Ã‚   In 1890, Congress passed the  Sherman Antitrust Act  by nearly unanimous votes in both the  House  and  Senate. The Act prohibits companies from conspiring to restrain free trade or otherwise monopolize an industry. For example, the Act bans groups of companies from participating in â€Å"price fixing,† or mutually agreeing to unfairly control prices of similar products or services. Congress designated the  U.S. Department of Justice  to enforce the Sherman Act.   In 1914, Congress enacted the  Federal Trade Commission Act  prohibiting all companies from using unfair competition methods and acts or practices designed to deceive consumers. Today the Federal Trade Commission Act is aggressively enforced by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), an independent agency of the executive branch of government. Clayton Antitrust Act Bolsters the Sherman Act Recognizing the need to clarify and strengthen the fair business safeguards provided by the Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890, Congress in 1914 passed an amendment to the Sherman Act called the  Clayton Antitrust Act. President Woodrow Wilson signed the bill into law on October 15, 1914. The Clayton Act addressed the growing trend during the early 1900s for large corporations to strategically dominate entire sectors of business by employing unfair practices like predatory price fixing, secret deals, and mergers intended only to eliminate competing companies. Specifics of the Clayton Act The Clayton Act addresses unfair practices not clearly prohibited by the Sherman Act, such as predatory mergers and â€Å"interlocking directorates,† arrangements in which the same person makes business decisions for several competing companies. For example, Section 7 of the Clayton Act bans companies from merging with or acquiring other companies when the effect â€Å"may be substantially to lessen competition, or to tend to create a monopoly.† In 1936, the  Robinson-Patman Act  amended the Clayton Act to prohibit anticompetitive price discrimination and allowances in dealings between merchants. Robinson-Patman was designed to protect small retail shops against unfair competition from large chain and â€Å"discount† stores by establishing minimum prices for certain retail products. The Clayton Act was again amended in 1976 by the  Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act, which requires companies planning major mergers and acquisitions to notify both the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice of their plans well in advance of the action. In addition, the Clayton Act allows private parties, including consumers, to sue companies for triple damages when they have been harmed by an action of a company that violates either the Sherman or Clayton Act and to obtain a court order prohibiting the anticompetitive practice in the future. For example, the Federal Trade Commission often secures court orders banning companies from continuing false or deceptive advertising campaigns or sales promotions. The Clayton Act and Labor Unions Emphatically stating that â€Å"the labor of a human being is not a commodity or article of commerce,† the Clayton Act forbids corporations from preventing the organization of labor unions. The Act also prevents union actions such as strikes and compensation disputes from being in antitrust lawsuits filed against a corporation. As a result, labor unions are free to organize and negotiate wages and benefits for their members without being accused of illegal price fixing. Penalties for Violating the Antitrust Laws The Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice share the authority to enforce the antitrust laws. The Federal Trade Commission can file antitrust lawsuits in either the federal courts  or in hearings held before  administrative law  judges. However, only the Department of Justice can bring charges for violations of the Sherman Act. In addition, the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act gives the state attorneys general authority to file antitrust lawsuits in either state or federal courts. Penalties for violations of the Sherman Act or the Clayton Act as amended can be severe and can include criminal and civil penalties: Violations of the Sherman Act:  Companies violating the Sherman Act can be fined up to $100 million. Individuals – typically executives of the violating corporations- can be fined up to $1 million and sent to prison for up to 10 years. Under federal law, the maximum fine may be increased to twice the amount the conspirators gained from the illegal acts or twice the money lost by the victims of the crime  if either of those amounts is over $100 million.Violations of the Clayton Act:  Corporations and individuals violating the Clayton Act can be sued by the people they harmed for three times the actual amount of the damages they suffered. For example, a consumer who spent $5,000 on a falsely advertised product or service can sue the offending businesses for up to $15,000. The same â€Å"treble damages† provision can also be applied in â€Å"class-action† lawsuits filed on the behalf of multiple victims. Damages also include attorneys fees and other court cost s. The Basic Objective of Antitrust Laws Since the enactment of the Sherman Act in 1890, the objective of the U.S. antitrust laws has remained unchanged: to ensure fair business competition in order to benefit consumers by providing incentives for businesses to operate efficiently thus allowing them to keep quality up and prices down. Antitrust Laws in Action Breakup of Standard Oil While charges of violations of the antitrust laws are file and prosecuted every day, a few examples stand out due to their scope and the legal precedents they set. One of the earliest and most famous examples is the court-ordered 1911 breakup of the giant Standard Oil Trust monopoly. By 1890, the Standard Oil Trust of Ohio controlled 88% of all oil refined and sold in the United States. Owned at the time by John D. Rockefeller, Standard Oil had achieved its oil industry domination by slashing its prices while buying up many of its competitors. Doing so allowed Standard Oil to lower its production costs while increasing its profits.In 1899 the Standard Oil Trust was reorganized as the Standard Oil Co. of New Jersey. At the time, the â€Å"new† company owned stock in 41 other oil companies, which controlled other companies, which in turn controlled yet other companies. The conglomerate was viewed by the public – and the Department of Justice as an all-controlling monopoly, controlled by a small, elite group of directors who acted without accountability to the industry or the public.In 1909, the Department of Justice sued Standard Oil under the Sherman Act for creating and maintaining a monopoly and restricting interstate commerce. On May 15, 1911, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the lower court’s decision declaring the Standard Oil group to be an unreasonable monopoly. The Court ordered Standard Oil broken up into 90 smaller, independent companies with different directors.

How the Political Typology does, doesn’t describe me accurately After looking at my results of the survey, seeing how they placed me and looking more into the category in which I was placed and believe it is very accurate. The survey marked me as a New Coalition Democrat, the definition of their party is strongly pro-government, upbeat about our country’s ability to solve problems through hard work, generally liberal on racial issues, hospitable to immigrants and very religious. Fifty six percent of the party is Democrats, thirty four percent, white thirty percent black and twenty six percent Latino; fifty five percent only have a high school education, twenty three percent are not registered to vote and fifty five percent are regular volunteer for charity. The survey is mostly correct I do believe with hard work the government’s issues can be solved however I believe we the people should be responsible to work hard to get back on its feet not solely the government. I am very liberal on racial issues and believe no matter what color, race or sex everyone is entitled to the same opportunities, they should be allowed a decent education so they have the ability to make something of their selves if they use their resources. I am and have been very hospitable to immigrants feeling no threat from them and I do welcome them into my home as well as help them get onto their feet as they settle in America. I do fit into the religious and volunteer category as well. As to saying I’m pro-government I am yes and no. I take the side of John Locke I believe people do need to have people in power over them or we would live in chaos, but the person’s should have limited power in order to avoid anarchy. I think the government should avoid making many restrictions on what people can and cannot do, however I believe they have done right by putting a celling price and floor price on goods as well as stopping the monopoly system, though looking at them wanting to ban sodas and guns is getting involved in making people stupid and unable to make a decision for themselves. Comparing my results from the survey to the nine groups and their values, mentioned in the book, they would say I am a Social Conservative saying I am a moralist believing people should live by a set of right, just morals, pro-life believing everyone is equal and should have the same opportunities. Oppose welfare, I honestly do I think it is our job as fellow Americans to step in and assist our neighbors not ask the government to come in and fix it for us as Locke said we should be compassionate and take care of each other. I also do believe that assertive foreign policy, forming alliance with other countries agreeing to work together for the better of both our people, is a healthy thing for countries to do. According to the survey and book, I am classified as a New Coalition Democrat and Social Conservative, believing we as American citizens are responsible to work hard to help the government get back on their feet, that everyone should be given the same opportunities no matter who they are, we should accept immigrants they are not threatening us most come here to get away from conflict and I am religious. I take the side of John Locke when it comes to pro-government I believe in limited power to stop anarchy from happening but we as people need to have people in authority or there would be mass chaos. I do oppose welfare as I feel it isn’t the government’s responsibility to take care of the people but the people’s job to assist our neighbors through hard times and lastly I consider foreign policies to be something that is healthy for our country and other countries.

The provincial government invest ed for this program about $13, 500000 taxpayer’s dollars.The impact of full-day kindergarten project gives the new possibilities for children to increase level of knowledge, social participation and quality of life, but it takes away the school’s financial support to build up the successful educational process as a whole. And I have a question: â€Å"Is this investment worth in today’s economical situation or not? † Majority of children, who attend a full-day kindergarten, indicate a huge progress by showing great grades especially in the reading and mathematics skills. The researchers found that â€Å"children in such settings enjoy an academic edge over those in half-day programs† (Viadero & Debra, 2005).They can easily reach the high level by using extra time. †Many educators and parents of young children believe: Children learn more in full-day kindergarten programs than they do in half-day program. †(Viadero & Debra, 2005). These c hildren stay longer in school compared to the children, who attend half-day kindergarten, so they have extra time to practice and polish learning materials. Second, starting to study from young age has a great advantage, because at this age children have a tremendous ability to observe and absorb new information. â€Å"A seamless day of uninterrupted school gives children the time to explore, discover how hings work for themselves and engage with other children. † (Song, 2010, p. U1). Combining ability observing and absorbing new information with having extra time, when the children can polish learning material they usually get good marks for their assessments and tests. Those children, according to Viodera and Debra (2005) â€Å"on average, the learning gains that pupils make in full-day programs translate to about a month of additional schooling over the course of a school year†. Having enough time is increasing chances to get better marks and keep up with studying a nd improving their goals.The children, who are enrolled in full day kindergarten, have very good social skills. First of all, they have to be in the big group of children from very young age. Children have to learn how make friends, build relationships, and keep them. Those children also learn how to solve big and small issues and problems; they learn how to make concessions and compromises. â€Å"Children love to learn and thrive in an atmosphere where the only concern of the adult in their day is that they are successful and feel good about themselves†. (McClean,2010).They have an opportunity learning from adult; parents and educators can collaborate and teach the children how to communicate with each other and how to manage and come up with the same decision, which was chosen by a group of children. Having some knowledge about how to communicate, solve the problems is one of the characteristic of leader. Those children can build their leadership skills, because they spend a lot of time together; so they are becoming well-know very quickly. Song(2010) in his publication said that children at the age 4 or 5 are already prepared to enjoy the company with partners and mates.When children feel more confident and successful they are more active in social life of community. Participation in social life can be a step on the long way to success. Full-day kindergarten gives for children an opportunity to build a new life style, because parents can earn and save a lot of money. † Proponents say the day-long school program will let more parents upgrade job skills or work outside the home, while saving others the hassle of living work in the middle of the day to shuttle kids from school to childcare†( Pearson,2010).Parents will be able to have a better well-paid job, so they will make more money. They also will save a lot of money because they do not have to pay for childcare or babysitter. They can channel this money to different needs such as school supply material or enroll kids to different after school program and activities. Cost of post-secondary education grows up every year; putting extra-money in an educational fund will be paid a price in the near future. Children will have a chance to get diploma without debt or the debt will be paid off very quickly.Parents can make living their children more comfortable and relax. They can use savings on vacation and different activities. Having enough money avoids many problems; so fewer problems equal less stress. Money can change children’s life style. Supporters of half-day kindergarten asset that starting school life in very young age could be profitless, because when children stay longer day in school they can get bored and they cannot get their education without debt and they also could be egoistic. However, it is not true. According to Song (2010), children are able to study from young age.Using different methods helps make learning more effective and interesting. Le arning cannot be boring; how can some new thing be boring. Staying longer in big group of children provokes to communicate; ability to communicate built outgoing person. Even though cost of post-secondary education is not small amount of money it can less for children, who can have a scholarship because they will have great grades and they can also use money from different educational funds where parents had put money when children were little. All those factors give only positive points of view let’s take a look for the negative spots as well.There are not secrets that so many employees lost their jobs; how we can be positive about the future those teachers, what they have to do and how they have to live and support their families when there is a shortage of job positions availability. I chose this topic as I am very interested in what the school has to offer to people who enjoy other activities outside of school. Also I participate in a lot of these activities so I had a very good understanding of how they have developed and achieved. I also think that all students should be aware of what extra curricular aspects the school offers as it helps them to learn how to work as a team and get to know the rest of the students better. Choice of application I have chosen Microsoft power point to present my presentation as I am familiar with this application from other assignments and therefore I have a good understanding of how to use it. It is also very time efficient when presenting information to an audience as you do not waste time changing overheads. Also images, graphs, sounds and diagrams can be added which makes it more interesting to watch. Microsoft power point allows me to import images from discs and also the internet to use in my presentation, which is very helpful as clip art does not have all the necessary images I may want. The slide show allows me to choose how I want to design the slide and what information I want to be entered. It allows me to choose the timing of the changes in the slide and what effects I want added. Planning my slide show 1st slide: For my title I will use Kristen ict font and will have it at size 44. My title will be My multimedia presentation. For the image from clipart I will use a woman on a computer. I will also add a cheering sound to add more effect. The title will become big and then decrease into position as the name will appear. The image had a blinds effect added and also the sound will come on. 2nd slide: The spider diagram will contain all the after school activities and the information beside it will tell use about the activities. I will choose bright colours for the spider diagram as it will be more attractive and will attract my audiences attention better. My Title will be After School Activities and will also be size 44 and Kristen Ict. I will choose a bright back ground so it is more appealing. The title will have the effect to bounce in from the right and the information will appear as a blinds effect. The spider diagram will appear from coming from the bottom after the information has finished appearing. 3rd slide: My 3rd slide will be based on the after school activity Gaelic. Gaelic will be my title and will be font Kristen Ict and will be size 44. I will explain the background for our Gaelic team and how people can join, in the information part. I will have a picture of a Gaelic team for my image and will rotate it after the information has been brought in with the effect diamond. I have also made this background colourful to attract people and will do so throughout my presentation. This slide will show the option of the school choir. It will have information on the achievements and how to join. I will have to scan a picture of the school choir onto the slide as the clip art does not contain a picture of the school choir. The title will descend into position as the text comes in from the right. The image will have a checkerboard effect also. My fifth slide will be on the schools netball team. I will have information on when and how you can join the team. The text will have a colour typewriter effect added to it. The two images I will have, I will download them from the schools website and have a swivel effect to the pictures. My title will have two effects, unfold and then peek in as these are both very short effects. My last slide will contain information on our Hockey activities. I will explain in my text the past of our school hockey team and also the training days for anyone who wants to join. The effect, which I will use to present this text, will be unfold. This takes a long time to complete so I will have to readjust the time so that it will be quicker. I will have an image imported from the Internet of a tackle in hockey. This image will sling from the left and then settle in the correct position. The title will have a stretch effect when it is entering. To import the images I will use in my slide show I will have to visit the sites, which contain these pictures and saves them in My Pictures. I will then be able to add them to my clip art where I can use them for my presentation. This is the web site I used to import my video clip I clicked the second button on my mouse and then I saved it to my computer. I then went to my presentation and added the video to my clip art. I used the same method for importing the images I used but I got most of the images from the Thornhill web site. My presentation will be designed for teenagers between 12 and 18. I will try to adapt my presentation to my audience as much as possible in the appropriate way. I will use bright colours to attract their attention and use as little writing as possible but enough for them to understand and not get bored. I will use effects that will also attract their attention and will make them want to read the presentation. I will try and use as much images as I can to explain what my presentation is about. I have decided to make the presentation on a topic that includes The audience as it is about their school and what they have to offer them as extra curricular activities. i will also add sounds to my presentation to keep the audience attentive and it will also make them want to listen. For my font I will make it less formal and try to adapt it to one, which is suitable for my audience.

Our SAT experts who took the SAT on June 6th noted major problems in how the test was administered, leading to potential imbalances in test performance and equality. As we suspected, these problems extend throughout the country. A reader wrote in with his terrible College Board testing experience with his son. The belowletter was directly sent to the College Board as a complaint: My son took a SAT Subject test on June 6, 2015 at UC Irvine in Irvine, California. The test was to be an hour. I assumed the total time he would be there would be no more than 2 hours. On the testing day, there were hundreds of students there. They were testing for all subject tests plus the SAT itself. Checking in the students was a nightmare. Initially, there was only one extremely long line of students. I dropped my son off and saw him get in line. Since we arrived early, he was behind approximately 50-75 students. When I drove by 30 minutes later, I was shocked to see the line at least five times longer and my son still standing in line. At that point, I thought there was nothing I could do, and it wasn't until FOUR hours later when he texted me that he had finished, that I discovered what he had to go through. After he waited an hour in line waiting to be checked in, he said suddenly many students started running to another building. He then heard someone yell that SAT subject test takers need to go to another building. By the time he ran over to the other building, he then was at the back of a new long line. He said nowhere were signs posted or people giving instructions to the students as they arrived as to where they should go to check in. Once he got into the room for the test about an hour later, he said he sat through 40 minutes of instructions, including instructions about calculators and having the calculators physically examined. My son was not there to take a math subject test, but a history test. Yet he had to sit through lengthy instructions that did not even pertain to his test. So after being dropped off to take the test, he was not able to begin the test until hours later. That alone would make a student not only tired but even more apprehensive. The desk he had to sit in had a very small surface area, less than the size of a sheet of notebook paper. He said it wasn't even enough room for his scantron and his arm had to hang off the side. He had to put his test booklet in his lap, without anything underneath it to provide a harder writing surface. When I asked how he marked in his test booklet (for marking eliminations and notes), he said he had to do it in his lap and it was extremely uncomfortable. My son said he didn't want to take any further subject tests because of the experience. I tried to assure him that we will find a different test center next time, but I have no way of knowing what he might encounter elsewhere and it could be even worse. We have heard the many stories of proctors listening to audible music while the test is being administered, issues with the correct time being given, noise from outside not being addressed and other unfair conditions. At this point, we don't yet know how he fared on the SAT subject test he took. But regardless, these testing conditions and disorganization are unfair and completely unacceptable. We expected the process to be professional, especially since the College Board has been administering these tests for many years. It's very likely that this reader's son was severely disadvantaged compared to students at other, better-run SAT testing centers in the country.
